I really needed this lock because I no longer had keys. This new lock was great. It was easy to installI really wished my mailman would have let me install this without having to take other measures since I lost the keys to the old lock.I read the reviews before I purchased the item and had the assumption that my mailman would let me install it when they were filling the rest of the slots in the community mailbox. Boy was I wrong, with the lock and wrench in hand I was told that I needed to get a locksmith to obtain the master key from my local post office to then open the whole front of the community box to finally take the ~13mm nut off the post to swap my lock. I was dumfounded and only could get "it's company policy" as reasoning. She is new to my route so maybe she's trying stick to the book but I really didn't want a locksmith involved for something so simple and then end up paying $100+ just in labor. I ended up buying a lock picking kit since the community box belonged to the post office and didn't want to break any laws damaging their property. I watch a few videos on YouTube that's already out there and after raking the lock for about 5 minutes I was able to open my slot section and replaced it.The install itself took maybe 2 minutes total and all the proper hardware came in the kit.Now this is a complete USPS mailbox lock kit! I purchased a kit before this one and it did not include the locking bracket. So I returned it and ordered this, this kit includes everything you need for a total lock replacement and even includes three keys. This matced the old USPS lock perfectly. I got quotes from locksmiths that wanted to charge me between $100 to $150 to replace the lock. Fortunately I found my Postlady and ask her if she could please open up my box once I proved I was the new owner. It took me about a minute to remove the old lock and about three minutes to install the new one (videos are plentiful on YouTube). It fit perfectly and matched all of the other locks in the mailbox array which was a necessity since I'm part of a homeowners association and everything has to be within code. This kit might be a few dollars more but spend the extra money, look at the other kits on Amazon and most of them only have two keys and no locking bracket, this one has both. Highly recommended kit, you won't be sorry. We originally bought a replacement lock locally at a big box store that was a piece of garbage and didn’t work. I googled the number on the original lock, and found this direct replacement on Amazon. It’s a perfect fit that took less than a minute to install. Considering the wasted 30 minutes of frustration with the big box store lock and another hour of online research spent as a result, the cost difference for this quality lock is more than justified. I only wish these were available locally so I didn’t have to wait for shipping.Looks and works like original, except you can remove the key while unlocked. Even the post office would not know the difference. The three keys all worked, just a little rough the first few time inserted and removed, but smoothed out after just a few uses.. No lube or wire brushing was necessary. Very easy install and a perfect replacement. I did find that I could remove the key while the lock was unlocked and the door open. That is not how my original lock worked, but it is not a problem for me. It could be an issue if you leave your box unlocked to the neighbors. I am getting old, but I don't think I'm quite that forgetful YET! Good purchase and I would recommend to a friend, I might even install it for them if they need help. This worked perfectly for my mailbox lock that I lost the key for. The post office said they were going to charge me $50 just to replace it. I don’t think so! I just would’ve had to find a different way to get my mail. Besides, I don’t want all those bills anyway! Lol! Nevertheless, my postal carrier suggested this for less than half the price and it fit perfectly!Took about 3 minutes to install, works perfectly.Swapped out the original mailbox lock that I had the key for but since it was the only key, it was a little bent so I had difficulty in inserting and removing the key. Figured that it would break in the lock soon if I didn't replace it. This was a easy swap. Opened the mailbox door, removed the bolt to remove the rotating locking plate, metal lock holder, removed lock and then reverse the steps. Very easy and only took 2 minutes. Make sure you have a socket to loosen the nut to remove the locking plate. After all was done, insertion and removal of the key was simple and lock worked as normal. Glad I didn't have to get the post office involved to swap out the lock. Simple DYI project.
